| So I started working at my school and lived in Japan for about 4 weeks
now. It's been quite an adventure. Schools are very different than
the U.S. School started recently and we had an opening ceremony for
first year students at Iwane Junior High. The new students and their
parents all introduced themselves in the school gym and received
recognition from the principal. I was also amazed to learn that the
teachers visit every student's house on a periodic basis to ensure
their home environment is suitable for learning. Then everyone
listened to his speech for another hour. I think I remembered my
first day of Juinor high and it involved pre algebra at 7:55 AM. The
school doesn't have a janitorial staff either. The teachers and
students are all responsible for cleaning up the school and about 15
minutes is dedicated for that every morning before school and
afternoon after school. Lunch is pretty simple, everyone eats in the
classrooms, teachers and students. I've gotten used to wearing a tie
and formal suit for work everyday, although the teachers are pretty
informal. So far to me the students have been very nice. They ask
VERY presonal questions though! I usually just laugh it off for give
a joke answer. One thing I will never get tired of is the expression
and reaction you get from female students when they ask you if you
have a girlfriend and you tell them you don't. Their faces just light
up and sometimes they will either jokingly (I hope) tell you to be
theirs, or to date another teacher that is also not seeing someone at
the moment (What an Idea!!) If you teach in Japan or probably any
Asian country, the students will almost for sure try to poke into your
personal lives. It's amusing to an extent but of course we all keep
our student/teacher relationship completely professional.
In Japan generally you don't want to "spend the night" with a lady who
is really into you after only a few minutes. There is a good chance you
will get pwned by the Yakuza. |

| In Japan, if you ask a woman if she is married or not, that is considered sexual harassment. However if the students I am teaching ask me "Tim do you like sex?" apparently that is ok. |

| K so I won't have internet for about 2 weeks so ill type the best i can at the pc cafe. I moved into my apartment which is really nice. I got 2 bedrooms so if anyone wants to visit Japan, my place is the place to be and its only 1 hour from the airport. I got drunk in shibuya last night so those pics will be coming soon. |

| True story not exaggerated:
A teacher from our company went to a restaurant with co-workers and the principal. The principal got so drunk and smashed eventually he thought he was a cicada. So he took off all his clothes, got butt naked and started climbing this fake plastic indoor tree. the manager of the restaurant saw him and went up to him and all he said to the naked principal was "get off the tree sir"

| Note to self: don't shave when you are drunk.
